Jerome
Bech
Where CoBrA meets the street.
Born in Amsterdam in 1970, Jerome Bech has lived and worked in Bergen NH for most of his life.
Largely self-taught, he began making art at 21 and has built a practice spanning more than
35 years — blending painting, mixed media and found objects into works that are immediately
recognisable and impossible to categorise.
His early influences include the CoBrA movement, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Dutch poet-painter
Lucebert — who noticed Bech’s talent early and encouraged him to develop his own voice.
That voice is now unmistakable: expressive, layered, ironic, and alive with colour.
His paintings invite you to look longer. Every layer holds a new detail, every text fragment
a new thought. Bech makes art that is playful on the surface and serious underneath —
or perhaps the other way around.
