From nothing into never-ending growth.

Born in 1957 in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam, Ron Moret lives and works in Bergen, North Holland. He came to art late — and on his own terms. For years he was a collector rather than a maker, living among the work of others before picking up the craft himself at the age of forty.

Entirely self-taught, Moret works in steel — a material he calls “martial.” Under his hand the hard, industrial medium is pushed toward something unexpectedly expressive, each piece carrying the weight and tension of its making. What began as instinct has become a continuous practice, driven less by formal training than by the act of shaping matter itself.

His own words capture the arc of that journey: “I work in martial steel. I went from nothing into never-ending growth.”
